Dear alwaysmarsha,
Im 13 years old and yes i still go to school. i have what is called a roman nose and i admit to it. But yet still i am bullied at school for it. its come to the point where i cant go out with out either someone actually mentioning it or i think they are. i hear my peer’s laughing and i think its at me. i hate my picture taken from the side or from the front for that matter. ive considered surgery but im worried of what my parents would say to the proposal and what my peers would think afterwards. its really annoying me now that i cant really do anything about it. alls i ask is do you know of anyway i could get used to the fact. get my self asteam back up high or propose the option of surgery to my parents. i also do apoligise for any spelling mistakes or punctuation mistakes. i never was the smartest in the class.
yours sincerely.

Dear5’10″ guy that feels 2’1″,
I think the most important thing that you could do to benefit your situation is to except yourself for who you are and what you look like. I have a very inspirational video below that demonstrates no matter how we look or are treated by others, we have to first of all believe in ourselves.
It is very painful to be made fun of for anything in life. Especially our looks, because this is something that we were born with or certain circumstances happened beyond our control to cause these “so called” imperfections. We, however, do not have to let these bother us in life. We must hold our heads up high and carry on without letting something so minuscule stand in our way of self belief. At one time or another we have all been made fun of or teased about something that made us feel embarrassed.
I often blame the media of television, magazines, billboards, and so on for the alleged image of perfection and beauty. They would not think of putting an average looking gal on the cover of a magazine, or would they? Most would answer no because if a manufacturer is trying to sell a product, they want to try making us, the buyers, think that it will give our skin or hair, or even our bodies look the same or close to the same results as the models. I would like to ask you to take a look at the following videos for examples of what really goes on behind the screens of a model shoot and how these BEAUTIFUL women get to look that way. This hard core truth needs to reach every young person around the globe.
Your nose also is something that you should be proud of because it shows your family heritage.

If possible, just ignore it when you “think” others are laughing at you because of your nose. The chances are, they really are not, but because of your lack of self esteem, you feel that every laughter or smirk is pointed toward your nose or you in one way or another. If it does come up that someone teases you, just laugh with them and say that there is no mistaking you are of the Roman heritage then aye.
I do not think that plastic surgery is the route to go. This could cause either more complications or maybe after you have it completed, and if you are pleased, perhaps you would then choose another part of your body to alter, and then another, until you are covered in surgeries.
True beauty is found on the inside. If you are able to accept yourself, then you will find that others will except you just as you are as well.
Always,
Marsha
